The Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) has arrested 100 suspected drug offenders during a six-day islandwide enforcement operation that resulted in drugs worth more than S$34,000 being seized.
The operation, conducted between 12 and 17 July, targeted multiple locations across Singapore, including Boon Lay, Ghim Moh, Jurong, Kallang, Tampines, Tengah, Toa Payoh, and Woodlands.
Authorities also seized a small amount of cash believed to be linked to drug-related activities.
Cannabis, Heroin And Ice Among Drugs Seized
According to CNB, officers recovered approximately:
- 859g of cannabis
- 120g of heroin
- 85g of Ice (methamphetamine)
- 3g of Ecstasy tablets
- Two Erimin-5 tablets
- S$252.75 in cash
The total street value of the drugs seized is estimated to exceed S$34,000.
CNB said the quantities of heroin, cannabis and Ice confiscated during the operation could have potentially supported the addiction of around 228 drug abusers for about one week.
Suspected Drug Trafficker Arrested In Woodlands
One of the key arrests took place on 14 July, when officers detained a 28-year-old Singaporean man suspected of drug trafficking.
His motorcycle, parked near Woodlands Street 13, was searched before CNB officers conducted a follow-up raid at his residence in the vicinity of Segar Road.
Inside the unit, officers allegedly recovered about:
- 689g of cannabis
- 9g of Ice
- Drug-taking paraphernalia
Investigations into the suspect are ongoing.
Nine Bangladeshi Men Arrested At Dormitory
On 16 July, CNB led a joint enforcement operation at a foreign worker dormitory in the vicinity of Jurong, resulting in the arrest of nine Bangladeshi men aged between 22 and 40.
The operation was carried out together with officers from the Ministry of Manpower (MOM), Singapore Customs, and the Health Sciences Authority (HSA) as part of efforts to combat drug trafficking and drug abuse.
Among those arrested, three men are suspected of both drug trafficking and drug consumption offences.
Officers seized approximately 15g of cannabis during the operation.
CNB Reminds Public Of Severe Penalties
CNB reiterated that it is a serious offence to traffic controlled drugs, offer to traffic them, or perform any act that facilitates drug trafficking, whether on one’s own behalf or for another person, regardless of whether that individual is in Singapore.
Under Singapore law, anyone convicted of trafficking more than 500g of cannabis may face the mandatory death penalty, subject to the provisions of the Misuse of Drugs Act.
Investigations into all the suspects arrested during the operation are ongoing.
