
According to NEA, at least 1090 tickets were issued in 2020 for those who smoke in prohibited areas such as corridors, staircase and lift.
Comparing it with 2019, the rise of the tickets issued has increased by 112%. Many believed that this is due to COVID-19 as more people are home compared to before.
NEA also stated that they received 25% more complains for smoking in HDB estates.
“In response to behavioural and work-life changes arising from Covid-19, NEA adjusted its enforcement posture and prioritised resources to focus on areas with higher feedback,”
“This led to a 112 per cent increase in the number of tickets issued for smoking in smoking-prohibited areas in HDB estates, such as common corridors, staircases and lift lobbies, compared to in 2019. ” said NEA.
over 50% more high rise cameras deployed
NEA also increased its high-rise littering camera base on increase feedback received for high-rise littering and smoking.
