Singapore police have arrested 13 men suspected of being involved in secret society activities following a large-scale enforcement operation conducted across the island.
The operation, which took place over two days, saw officers carrying out extensive checks at various public entertainment venues, nightlife establishments and food-and-beverage outlets. Authorities said the crackdown was part of ongoing efforts to combat unlawful activities linked to secret societies and maintain public order.
The suspects, aged between 21 and 39, are currently assisting with investigations.
Nearly 100 Individuals Screened During Enforcement Exercise
According to police, the operation was coordinated by specialist officers from the Criminal Investigation Department and supported by multiple police divisions across Singapore.
During the enforcement exercise, officers visited dozens of locations known to attract large crowds, including entertainment venues and popular gathering spots. Close to 100 individuals were screened as part of the checks.
The operation forms part of a wider strategy by law enforcement agencies to identify and deter individuals believed to be involved in unlawful groups or activities that may threaten community safety.
Police did not disclose further details about the suspects or the specific circumstances that led to their arrests, as investigations remain ongoing.
Heavy Penalties For Unlawful Society Membership
Under Singapore law, individuals found guilty of being members of unlawful societies may face serious penalties, including imprisonment of up to three years, fines of up to S$10,000, or both.
Authorities reiterated that they adopt a strict stance against secret societies and related criminal activities, emphasising that such groups have no place in Singapore.
The police also reminded members of the public to avoid associating with unlawful organisations and to report any suspicious activities that may be linked to gang-related behaviour.
Police Vow Continued Enforcement Operations
Law enforcement agencies stated that similar operations will continue throughout the year, particularly in areas where unlawful gatherings or activities are known to occur.
Regular inspections and enforcement checks are expected to be conducted at entertainment venues, nightlife districts and other locations where individuals linked to secret society activities may congregate.
Police warned that anyone found participating in, supporting or associating with unlawful societies could face enforcement action.
