The shocking video footage, captured on the driver’s dashcam, reveals a harrowing attempt by the young passenger to stab the driver during what should have been a routine ride.

The incident unfolded on Monday, Nov. 27, in Sungai Petani, Kedah. The dashcam recording not only documents the violent act but also showcases the driver’s quick thinking, possibly saving his life.

The Incident Details

According to The New Straits Times, the 65-year-old driver picked up the 13-year-old passenger at Taman Keladi, with the intended destination being Bandar Sri Astana. Little did the driver know that this routine ride would take a dark turn.

As the journey progressed, the passenger made an unusual request—he asked to borrow RM50 (S$14.30) from the driver, claiming it was for rent. The driver, understandably, set a condition: pay for the ride or be dropped off immediately. The passenger insisted on being taken to his home, promising to pay there.

Altercation and Attempted Robbery

However, as they reached Bandar Sri Astana, the passenger changed his mind and asked to be returned to Taman Keladi. The driver received a payment of RM18 (S$5.15) but faced delays as the passenger directed him through alleys, resulting in an additional fee request of RM9 (S$2.60).

When the passenger, seemingly dissatisfied, attempted to stab the driver upon reaching the new destination, the driver’s seatbelt played a crucial role.

Miraculously, the tip of the knife got caught in the seatbelt and couldn’t pierce through it, sparing the driver from harm. The driver reacted swiftly, grabbing the knife and biting the passenger’s hand, prompting the young assailant to flee.

Motive Behind the Attack

According to the police, the motive behind the attack was the passenger’s anger towards the driver for scolding him. The suspect’s attempt to reclaim the fare took a violent turn, leading to a potential robbery.

The dashcam audio provides a chilling backdrop to the incident. The driver can be heard scolding the passenger for repeated stops without any intention of disembarking, highlighting the escalating tension during the ride.
