
There have been outbreaks of respiratory tract infections in many schools in Hong Kong recently. The Centre for Health Protection announced today (9th) that it is investigating 5 outbreaks of upper respiratory tract infections, involving 3 nursery schools, a kindergarten and a primary school, totaling 131 One school child and four staff were infected, and all patients were in stable condition.
The three nursery schools mentioned above are the Salvation Army Pak Tin Nursery School in Sham Shui Po, The Salvation Army Kam Tin Nursery School in Yuen Long and Caritas Sha Tin Nursery School. The case at The Salvation Army Pak Tin Nursery School involved 14 boys and 13 girls, aged between 11 months and 5 years old. They have developed cough and runny nose symptoms successively since November 6. 25 of them have sought medical treatment and all do not need to be hospitalized.
The case at The Salvation Army Kam Tin Nursery School in Yuen Long involved 13 boys and 10 girls, aged between 2 and 5. They have developed fever, cough, runny nose and sore throat since November 1, and 17 of them have sought medical attention.
The case of Caritas Sha Tin Nursery School involved 16 boys and 18 girls, aged between 2 and 5, and a staff member. They have developed fever, cough, runny nose and sore throat since November 5. 31 of them have sought medical treatment and all of them do not need to be hospitalized.
In addition, an outbreak of infection occurred at the Elder Green Grassland Kindergarten in Cumberland, Tung Chung, involving 11 boys and 13 girls, aged between 3 and 5, and 3 staff. They have developed fever, cough, runny nose and sore throat since November 2. Seventeen of them have sought medical treatment and do not need to be hospitalized.
The Method School in the Yau Tsim Mong District Primary School also reported an outbreak involving 12 boys and 11 girls, aged between 6 and 10. They have developed fever, cough, runny nose and sore throat successively since November 4. All have sought medical treatment and do not need to be hospitalized.
Staff of the Centre for Health Protection have inspected the above-mentioned schools or have contacted the schools to arrange inspections. The center also provides advice to schools on the prevention of respiratory infections, and the above schools are under medical supervision.
