The Singapore Police Force conducted a multi-agency enforcement operation, led by Tanglin Police Division and supported by officers from the Criminal Investigation Department, Singapore Civil Defence Force, Central Narcotics Bureau, Immigration & Checkpoints Authority, and Singapore Customs.
The raids, conducted from 24 September to 1 October, covered locations across Singapore, including Orchard Road, Balestier Road and Clarke Quay.
Illegal gambling
Singapore Customs conducted a series of joint operations near Whampoa and Beo Crescent, with about 17 people aged 62 to 81 being investigated for illegal gambling.
A 60-year-old man was also issued a composition fine for having duty-unpaid cigarettes, and more than $4,600 in cash were seized in the operation, along with a phone, 4 sticks of duty-unpaid cigarettes and gambling paraphernalia.
Women in vice activities
The police raided commercial units along Balestier Road, Orchard Road and a residential unit along Sophia Road, with a total of 14 women being arrested between the ages of 25 and 42, as well as a man, for offences under the Women’s Charter 1961.
Condoms and 24 phones were seized, and according to Shin Min Daily News, some of the women and customers were purportedly not clothed during the raid, with 3 women hiding in the attic.
