$14,000 IN CASH STOLEN FROM VEHICLE IN GEYLANG ROAD, MAN ARRESTED IN 4 HOURS

The Police have arrested a 36-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of theft from vehicle and fraudulent possession of property.

On 1 November 2024 at about 12.50pm, the Police were alerted to a case of theft involving a bag stolen from a vehicle in the vicinity of Geylang Road.

With the aid of images from Police cameras, officers from Bedok Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him within four hours of the report. Preliminary investigations revealed that the man, who discovered that the vehicle was unlocked, had allegedly stolen the bag from the vehicle. The bag contained bank cards and cash amounting to $14,000. Police officers subsequently arrested him in the vicinity of Geylang Road.

While conducting a search on the man, the officers also found multiple bank cards which did not belong to him. The bag and the bank cards were seized as case exhibits.

The man will be charged in court on 2 November 2024 with the offence of theft under Section 379 of the Penal Code 1871 and fraudulent possession of property under Section 35(1) of the Miscellaneous Offences (Public Order and Nuisance) Act 1906. The offence of theft carries an imprisonment term of up to three years, a fine, or both and the offence of fraudulent possession of property carries an imprisonment term of up to one year, a fine, or both.

The Police will spare no effort to arrest those who commit offence against property. Offender will be dealt with firmly in accordance with the law.
