Fifteen visitors were safely evacuated after a rollercoaster at Universal Studios Singapore (USS) came to an unexpected halt due to a technical malfunction on Thursday (16 July).
The incident occurred at around 1.50pm on the Enchanted Airways ride at Resorts World Sentosa (RWS), leaving the train stationary on the track with passengers on board.
Videos shared on social media showed the rollercoaster stopped at an angle, with riders remaining seated as staff worked to resolve the issue. No injuries were reported, and the attraction resumed operations later that day after passing safety checks.
Ride Automatically Stopped As Safety Measure
Footage circulating online showed the rollercoaster train halted at what appeared to be a 45-degree angle on the track.
The train consisted of eight cabins, with up to two passengers seated in each. Among those on board were children, who remained calm as they waited for assistance.
Several passengers appeared to be affected by the afternoon heat, with some shielding themselves from the sun using their hands or clothing while waiting for park staff to reach them.
Park employees were seen walking along the track beside the stalled train. Two workers appeared to be inspecting the ride and checking cables, while another later arrived carrying an umbrella, seemingly to provide shade for stranded passengers.
Visitors Evacuated Without Injuries
Responding to media queries, a Resorts World Sentosa spokesperson said the technical malfunction caused the Enchanted Airways ride to automatically stop in a safe position in accordance with its established safety procedures.
Staff then carried out an orderly evacuation of all 15 passengers by following the attraction’s standard operating procedures.
The spokesperson confirmed that nobody was injured during the incident.
Following the evacuation, Universal Studios Singapore conducted a comprehensive inspection of the ride to ensure it met all operational and safety requirements before allowing it to reopen later the same day.
RWS Apologises For Inconvenience
Resorts World Sentosa apologised to the affected visitors for the inconvenience caused and thanked them for their patience and understanding during the incident.
The integrated resort said visitor safety remains its highest priority and stressed that Universal Studios Singapore will continue to maintain strict safety and operational standards across its attractions.
Meanwhile, some social media users claimed they had previously encountered temporary ride breakdowns at other attractions within the theme park.
One user alleged that multiple rides experienced technical issues during a visit in May, while another claimed both the Revenge of the Mummy and Jurassic Park Rapids Adventure attractions broke down on the same day they visited.
Another commenter questioned whether affected visitors would receive compensation after waiting in line for attractions that later became unavailable.
Despite the online discussions, Resorts World Sentosa confirmed that the Enchanted Airways ride resumed normal operations on the same day after all required safety checks were successfully completed.
