15-Year-Old Malaysian Driver Causes Fatal Crash, 5 People Dead, Father Fined SGD 4,500

In a tragic incident that has captured public attention, a 15-year-old boy has been implicated in a car crash that resulted in the deaths of five individuals. The accident occurred on Jalan Stutong Baru earlier this year, and the boy’s father, aged 35, has been fined SGD 4,500 for allowing his underage son to drive without supervision.

Court Proceedings and Sentencing

The father pleaded guilty at the Kuching Magistrate Court to charges framed under Section 33(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, which pertains to leaving a child without reasonable supervision. Senior Assistant Registrar Noraini Ahmad imposed the fine, stating that failure to pay would result in a 12-month jail sentence. Additionally, the father has been ordered to complete 100 hours of community service within six months.

In a separate court proceeding, the 15-year-old son also pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, which led to the tragic deaths. This charge falls under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which addresses causing death through reckless or dangerous driving. During the incident, the teenager lost control of the vehicle, colliding with two cars and two motorcycles. Four victims died at the scene, while another succumbed to injuries later.

The teenager has also admitted to a separate charge of driving a motor vehicle while underage, which is addressed under Section 39(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. Magistrate Ling Hui Chuan has scheduled the next case mention for June 17, pending a probation report from the Social Welfare Department (JKM). The boy has been granted bail set at SGD 1,500, with his parents acting as sureties.
