16 Y.O AMONG 4 ARRESTED FOR 3,200 CARTONS OF CONTRABAND CIGS & VAPE

According to the Singapore Customs, an operation was conducted against duty-unpaid cigarettes which lead to the arrest of 3 men, 3 Singaporeans, and 1 Malaysian between the ages of 16 and 49-years-old.

The case happened in the vicinity of Loyang Drive and a man was seen approaching a Singapore registered van after leaving an industrial unit.

The authorities moved in and found out that the industrial unit was loaded with cigarettes that are hidden in bedframes.

The operation resulted in the authorities seizing a van, lorry, and 3,232 cartons of duty-unpaid cigarettes, which is equivalent to evading $276,010 and $22,140 respectively in taxes.

1056 boxes of e-cigarettes were also found along with 247 vaporizers and referred to HSA for further investigations.

“Buying, selling, conveying, delivering, storing, keeping, possessing or dealing with
duty-unpaid goods are serious offences under the Customs Act and the GST Act.
Offenders can be fined up to 40 times the amount of duty and GST evaded and/or
jailed for up to six years. Vehicles used in the commission of such offences are liable
to be forfeited.
