The Police have arrested 17 women, aged between 20 and 42, for their suspected involvement in vice-related activities.

On 30 August 2018, officers from the Central Police Division conducted raids at hotels located along Jalan Besar, Smith Street and Tiong Bahru, resulting in the arrests. Preliminary investigations revealed that the women had advertised their sexual services online and carried out the vice activities in hotels.

Police investigations are ongoing.

Landlords and hotel owners are advised to ensure that tenants do not carry out vice activities in their premises. Under the Women’s Charter, first time offender who keeps, manages or assists in the management of a brothel shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $3000, or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 3 years, or to both. In addition, any person who knowingly lives wholly or in part on the earnings of the prostitution of another person can be jailed up to five years and fined up to $10,000.

The Police will continue to take tough enforcement and will spare no effort in clamping down on vice activities. Those who are involved in such illicit activities will be dealt with in accordance to the law.
