Teen Arrested in Bangkok for Possession of Firearm Amid Gang Rivalry Concerns
In a concerning incident that highlights ongoing gang tensions in Bangkok, a 17-year-old boy was arrested early on May 9, 2025, after being found in possession of a firearm and ammunition. The arrest took place around 4 AM in front of a housing estate on Soi Wat Siriphongthammanimit, located in the Tha Raeng subdistrict of the Bang Khen district.
Police Colonel Anan Warasart, the superintendent of Bang Khen Police Station, led the operation that resulted in the apprehension of the teenager, known by the nickname Kiu. The arrest followed a routine patrol where officers noticed Kiu riding a motorcycle with suspicious behavior. Upon stopping him for inspection, authorities discovered a blank gun and four .380 caliber bullets concealed in a side bag.
During questioning, Kiu admitted that the firearm was his and claimed he had taken it from a rival gang member for self-defense purposes. This admission raises concerns about the escalating violence among youth in the area, as gang rivalries appear to be a significant factor in this incident. Following the arrest, police notified Kiu’s guardians and initiated legal proceedings, transferring both the teenager and the seized items to Bang Khen Police Station for further action.
