
According to a police media release, 7 individuals were arrested for their suspected involvement in illegal remote gambling activities. Among the 7 individuals, 4 are reported to be women and 3 are men. They are between 43 to 71 years old.
The 7 individuals were arrested in a police operation conducted by the Criminal Investigation Department between 09 to 10 Dec 2020. The aim of the operation was to clamp down syndicated remote gambling activities.
During the operation, a total of $170,000 and some gambling equipments were seized.
Police investigations are ongoing.
According to the law, anyone convicted of organising or assisting in the operation of remote gambling activities could be jailed up to 5 years, fined up to $200,000 or both.
