A 19-year-old man pleaded guilty and admitted in court on Monday, to abetting and intentionally aiding another man to commit rape on an unconscious girl, according to The Straits Times.
The 19-year-old, who works as a warehouse assistant, had carried an unconscious woman into a toilet after a drinking session, for the 20-year-old to rape her.
The three of them were co-workers at the time and the men cannot be identified because of a court order protecting the identity of the victim.
The case has been adjourned to 17 April, and the court called for a report to assess the 19-year-old’s suitability for informative training.
What happened?
The three of them were part of a group of 8 people who gathered inside a hotel room at Hotel Royal located on Newton Road on 28 November 2021, during the pandemic.
They shared 8 bottles of liquor among themselves, and a hotel concierge later call their room and told them that they were breaching SMM measures, which was a maximum of 5 people per group at the time, and that three people had to leave before midnight.
Two people then left the group shortly after, with the remaining six carrying on drinking.
In the early hours of 29 November the next morning, the victim felt drunk and fell asleep after taking one last shot of liquor.
The 20-year-old man was on the bed lying next to her inside the dark room, and he felt aroused.
The 19-year-old accused then carried the unconscious girl into the toilet, leaving her there before the 20-year-old went in and raped her.
The girl was unconscious throughout the assault and didn’t respond at all throughout the rape.
After raping the girl, the 20-year-old then dressed the victim and carried her out of the toilet, placing her on the bed and going to sleep.
When he later woke up, he told the 19-year-old and another 20-year-old woman about what he had done to the victim, and they agreed to lie to the victim that she had woken up and followed the 20-year-old guy into the toilet by herself.
The victim woke up later that morning and suspected that she had been raped because she felt some pain while using the toilet.
They then left the room and the 20-year-old sent the victim a message on Telegram later that day, confessing that he had taken advantage of her while she was drunk and unconscious.
However, he also lied to her and told her that she had gotten out of bed and followed him into the toilet, but the victim doubted his story.
She later resigned from her job and lodged a police report on 3 December 2021.
