A 19-year-old teenage boy was charged in court earlier today with the rape of his younger sister, who was aged between 8 and 11 at the time of the alleged offences.
He was charged with 2 counts each of rape and assault by penetration, one count of attempted rape and two more counts of voluntarily causing hurt to the victim.
The accused is a student at the Institute of Technical Education, and he cannot be named due to a court order protecting the identity of the victim.
He had allegedly tried to rape his sister who was then 8 years old in 2017, as well as allegedly assaulted her by penetration in the same year.
Then in January 2020, he is accused of raping her (who was then 11 in 2020) on two occasions, as well as allegedly using a stick to hit her head until she started bleeding in 2018.
In October 2019, he also allegedly hit her face with his hand, resulting in a bruise under her eye.
The victim and accused’s parents were in court earlier today for the hearing, with a bail of $50,000 granted to the accused who is due to return on 23 March.
The victim si currently under the care of the Ministry of Social and Family Development.
