The temperatures across Singapore on the first day of the Hungry Ghost Month yesterday (29 July), plunged to 22.7°C.
Temperatures at Admiralty at about 7.30pm were about 22.7°C, and areas such as Ang Mo Kio saw slightly higher but still cooling temperatures of 24.3°C.
There were also heavy rain and strong winds across most parts of Singapore, which helped the plunging of the temperatures across the island.
Temperatures at Sembawang also dipped to 23.8°C, with more than 40mm of rain.
Yesterday (29 July) was the first day of the seventh lunar month, (or Hungry Ghost Month), where it is believed that the gates of hell are opened and spirits roam the earth for food and offerings.
Devotees prepare food offerings and burn incense candles and joss paper on the 1st, 15th and last day of the month-long festival.
The first day of the festival was yesterday, followed by the 15th day of the lunar month (12 August) and the last day of the festival on 26 August.
