Two of our staff – a medical social worker and a psychologist – have tested positive for COVID-19 infection. They are Cases #208 and #209 announced by the Ministry of Health yesterday.

Case #208
Our medical social worker went to our Staff Clinic on 4 March 2020 for mild respiratory symptoms with no recent travel history to affected countries and regions. She was given five days medical leave and stayed at home to rest during this period. On 13 March 2020, she returned to the Staff Clinic. She was admitted to the National Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCID) on 14 March.

Case #209
Our psychologist first experienced fever and respiratory symptoms on 13 March 2020 and attended our Staff Clinic on the same day. As she had been in the United States from 2 March to 7 March 2020, she was promptly admitted to our isolation ward.

Neither staff had any contact with each other during or outside work, or with COVID-19 patients. Both staff had complied with the Hospital’s infection control and precautionary measures, and had worn the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when working in clinical areas and when interacting with patients.

We will continue to provide all our care and support for our affected staff. Contact tracing is underway and colleagues who were in contact with them will be updated. We are taking the necessary precautionary measures to mitigate the risk of spread, which include disinfecting the relevant areas.

We remain on heightened vigilance to keep our patients, their loved ones, and staff safe through our measures in place, practising hand hygiene, wearing the appropriate PPE, deferring or cancelling non-essential travel, and seeking medical attention promptly when unwell.
