Two Singaporeans were among eight men arrested during a police raid at a five-star hotel in Kuala Lumpur after a hotel guest was found unconscious and later died.
According to Malaysian media reports, the incident unfolded in the early hours of May 24 after a 31-year-old local man was brought from the hotel to Kuala Lumpur Hospital in an unconscious state.
Doctors later pronounced the man dead shortly after arrival.
Police from the Brickfields Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division subsequently launched a raid at the hotel room at around 4am following information received during preliminary investigations.
Six Foreigners And Two Malaysians Detained
Authorities arrested eight men in total, comprising two Malaysians and six foreigners.
The foreign nationals reportedly included two Singaporeans, as well as one individual each from Hong Kong, Vietnam, Indonesia and China.
All eight suspects have been remanded for three days to assist with investigations.
During the operation, officers allegedly recovered a small packet believed to contain ketamine and several ecstasy pills. The seized substances had an estimated street value of RM225, which is approximately S$73.
The case is currently being investigated under Malaysia’s Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Victim Allegedly Lost Consciousness Inside Hotel Room
Investigators said initial findings suggest the deceased had lost consciousness inside the hotel room before one of his friends brought him downstairs at about 3:10am.
He was then transported to hospital for emergency treatment, but did not survive.
A post-mortem examination was later conducted, though laboratory test results concerning the exact cause of death are still pending.
At this stage, Malaysian authorities have classified the matter as a sudden death case while investigations continue.
