Two Singaporean nationals were found dead just four days apart at the same apartment complex in Batam, Indonesia, prompting investigations by local authorities.
The incidents occurred at Pollux Habibie, a large residential development in Batam that houses thousands of residents. While the deaths happened within days of each other and at the same location, preliminary investigations indicate that both individuals likely died from medical-related causes rather than foul play.
Woman Found Unresponsive on 38th Floor
The latest case involved a 59-year-old Singaporean woman identified only as “L”. She was discovered on the evening of 8 June inside a unit on the 38th floor of the apartment complex.
According to local reports, security personnel conducted a welfare check after concerns were raised. Upon entering the unit, they found the woman unresponsive and confirmed that she had already passed away.
Police officers were called to the scene shortly afterwards to begin investigations.
Initial findings suggested that the woman may have succumbed to an illness. Authorities reported that there were no visible signs of violence, external injuries, or indications of criminal activity.
Investigators are currently awaiting the results of a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
Elderly Singaporean Man Found Days Earlier
The incident came just four days after another Singaporean was found dead within the same residential complex.
On the afternoon of 4 June, an elderly Singaporean man was discovered inside his apartment after neighbours noticed they had not seen him leave his unit for an extended period.
Concerned residents alerted building management, who subsequently contacted the police.
Officers entered the apartment and found the man deceased. The area was temporarily cordoned off while investigators carried out their inquiries.
Local authorities confirmed the man’s Singaporean nationality and stated that preliminary findings pointed towards health-related causes or an existing medical condition.
As with the second case, investigators found no evidence of violence, external injuries, or criminal involvement.
Authorities Coordinating with Family Members
Indonesian authorities have reportedly worked with immigration officials and representatives from Singapore regarding the cases.
In the elderly man’s case, family members have since travelled to Batam and are making arrangements to claim his body and complete the necessary procedures.
While the two deaths occurred at the same apartment complex within a short period, authorities have not indicated any connection between the incidents beyond the shared location.
Investigations remain ongoing as officials await the final medical reports to establish the precise causes of death.
