2 Women Crash During Syed Alwi Police Car Chase, Arrested for Drug Offences

Car Parked Haphazardly Raises Police Suspicion

In the early hours of 29 June, three individuals — two women and a man — were arrested in Singapore after a dramatic car chase ended with their vehicle crashing into a lorry. The incident began when officers from the Singapore Police Force (SPF) were patrolling along Syed Alwi Road towards Jalan Besar at around 5:45am. They noticed a car parked erratically on the side of the road and approached to investigate.

As the officers moved closer, the male driver of the car suddenly fled on foot, prompting police to give chase. Officers managed to subdue and arrest him a short distance away. While police were dealing with the driver, one of the female passengers climbed into the driver’s seat and sped off in the car, reported Shin Min Daily News.

Crash with Lorry After Attempted Getaway

The police quickly located the fleeing vehicle on Syed Alwi Road again, but upon spotting the officers, the driver attempted to escape, driving recklessly and ultimately crashing into a lorry. The impact left the vehicle heavily damaged. According to Shin Min Daily News, the lorry driver recalled that the blue car had been honking aggressively behind him on the narrow one-way street, urging him to move faster. However, unable to give way, the lorry driver continued until he encountered police vehicles blocking the intersection, forcing the fleeing car to collide with his lorry.

Drugs, Arrests, and Investigation Ongoing

Upon searching the crashed car, police discovered substances suspected to be controlled drugs along with drug paraphernalia. The 25-year-old male driver, who was conscious after the crash, was taken to hospital and subsequently arrested for suspected drug-related offences. He was also found to be wanted for prior traffic offences. The 25-year-old woman who drove the car during the escape and a 23-year-old female passenger were arrested as well. The case has since been referred to the Central Narcotics Bureau, and investigations are ongoing into the suspected drug offences.
