
A multi-agency action team consisted of CNB, ICA, Singapore Customs, Health Sciences Authority, SFA and Bedok Police Division was formed to specifically target illegal activities in Geylang.
The five-day law enforcement action last week lead to the investigation of 54 individuals and 20 men were arrested. The suspects are believed to be involved in trafficking in illegal drugs, illegal gambling, operating entertainment venues without a license, illegally selling second-hand goods, and violating safety distances.
Geylang
Among those that are under investigation, 9 of them were caught for violating the HSA regulations and customs act, authorities seized cough syrups, aphrodisiacs and other illegal drugs, with a total value of more than SGD$26,000.
The police also raided two units in Geylang Lorong 13 and arrested 19 men aged between 20 and 59 on suspicion of violating the Gambling act The police seized SGD$700 in cash, computers and gambling equipment.
The SFA also carried out enforcement actions against illegal stalls at Geylang Lorong 16. Three men aged between 52 and 67 years old were fined for selling second-hand clothing in public places without applying for a license. The items were confiscated.
Ubi
An illegal entertainment venue on Ubi Ave 3 was also caught for operating with 15 men and 8 women between the ages of 20 and 50. One of the men who is believed to be running the place was arrested and currently under investigation.
