The 20-year-old accused who is one of two men accused of slashing two other men at a Boon Lay carpark back in April pleaded to have his bail amount reduced.
It was subsequently rejected by the court on 26 May.
The 20-year-old is facing 4 charges, with one of his earlier charges for being a member of an unlawful society, was allegedly committed when he was 14; he cannot be named under the Children and Young Persons Act.
His defence lawyer, Vadi PVSS from Kalidass Law Corporation, requested for the bail amount, which was set at $40,000, to be lowered to $15,000.
He explained that the man’s family was in “dire straits and can’t get a bailor to raise the amount”, however, District Judge Terence Tay rejected the plea and said that it was not a reason to reduce bail.
The other accused, 20-year-old Muhammad Sajid Saleem, was not offered bail, and the two of them appeared in court via a video feed.
Both men are expected to return to court on 23 June.
