A 20-year-old made 2 underage girls pregnant in separate cases, which resulted in the girls getting an abortion to terminate the pregnancies. He pleaded guilty in court on 12 January to three charges, including penetration of a minor. Due to a court order to protect the identities of the victims, he cannot be named, according to The Straits Times.
What happened?
The man first met the first victim through some mutual friends when he was 17 and she was 12, and they began dating in July 2020. He was serving his probation at the time for an unrelated offence.
About 2 months after they started dating, he started to become more controlling of his girlfriend and told her to stop contacting her friends.
During the first few months of their relationship, he started touching the girl, kissing her and holding her hands, and they soon started having intercourse.
The girl felt pressured to sleep with him because she was his girlfriend, despite being afraid of getting pregnant, and also because she felt that she was in love with him at the time.
In total, they had intercourse more than 20 times with the majority of their encounters taking place at HDB staircase landings.
Following one of their intercourse sessions in December 2020, when the victim was 13, she later started fearing that she could be pregnant after missing her period, and she confided in the accused, who dismissed her concerns and continued to engage in explicit activities with her.
They eventually broke up in March 2021, and the girl told her mother the next month that she might be pregnant, before the mother brought her to KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital for a check up, where she was confirmed to be pregnant.
The police were then alerted and the girl then got an abortion on 27 April 2021, with the accused later also being confirmed to be the biological father of the aborted child via a DNA analysis.
Second victim
After breaking up with the 1st victim, the accused soon started dating another 14-year-old girl on 15 May 2022, when he was 19 at the time.
Likewise, he also had intervcourse with the girl and got her pregnant. Just like with the 1st victim, the second victim confided in him that she might be pregnant but he also dismissed her concerns and continued to have intercourse with her.
She later got an abortion on 14 November 2022.
Rioting
In a separate, unrelated incident, the accused committed rioting in July 2022, when he met up with a group of youths in Punggol before attacking a 16-year-old boy, who ended up in hospital where he was found with a cut on his right eyebrow and a swollen lip.
He will return to court on 23 February for his mitigation as well as sentencing.
