20 YEAR OLD MALE ARRESTED FOR ESCOOTER CAROUSELL SCAM

Police have arrested a 20 year old male for his alleged involvement scams relating to the sale of e-scooters on various e-commerce platforms.

During the months of April and May, the police received several reports from victims who were cheated by an online seller on the platform, Caousell, pertaining to the sale of e-scooters. Upon receiving payments from victims, the seller would become uncontactable.

Joint Investigation Between Carousell and the Commercial Affairs Department

A joint investigation between Carousell and the Commercial Affairs Department led to the arrest of a 20 year old male at Ang Mo Kio Avenue 10 on the 5th of May 2020. Police stated : “Preliminary investigations revealed that the man is believed to be involved in at least five cases of e-commerce scams amounting to $3,000.”

Police investigations are ongoing. The offence of cheating under Section 420 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, is punishable with an imprisonment term of up to 10 years, and a fine.
