On January 28, 2022, the Singapore Police Force was alerted that a 21-year-old male had been abducted.
Prior to the report, the victim’s family, who were based in China, got recordings of the victim as well as ransom demands from an unknown individual with a Fujian accent who was thought to be in China.
Following the complaint, Tanglin Police Division, CID, and CAD officers were alerted and began an intensive search operation and investigation to identify the victim, who was subsequently discovered safe and sound in a hotel at around 9.30 am on the same day.
Investigations
Investigations received that the 21-year-old victim purportedly from an officer from the Ministry of Health in Singapore sometime in November 2021.
The call was redirected to scammers who pretended as China Police Official, The fraudsters allegedly stated that the victim was involved in money laundering in China and asked for his assistance in their investigations. Between 22 December 2021 and 24 January 2022, the victim and his parent sent more than $560,000 to the scammer’s bank accounts on many occasions.
The victim was also reportedly intimidated by the crooks. Following the scammer’s instructions, the victim sequestered himself in a hotel room and videotaped himself.
