22 men were charged on 6 July with obstructing the course of justice by alerting chat groups on WhatsApp about law enforcement raids at massage parlours, nightclubs and etc.
Night Owl
16 of the accused allegedly sent the tip-off messages to a chat group called “Night Owl” from January 2019 to April 2019, to prevent the detection of illegal activities.
The 16 men are between the ages of 29 to 49, and they are namely:
- Abdul Hadi Zainuddin,
- Mervin Yeoh Wei Kian,
- Muhammad Rashidi Rashid,
- Muhammad Rasyidi Safiee,
- Daniel Seet Joo Tong,
- Muhammad Azhar Dawood,
- Goh Wei Jie,
- Brandon Chung,
- Muhammad Ikhmal Bin Ismail,
- Ang Whay Chong,
- Ong Wee Sen,
- Wilson Soon Jien Yang,
- Jeffrey Goh Hock Soon,
- Ilex Tan,
- Lim Poh Kian and
- B Barathkrishnan
The alleged messages that the men sent, had named massage parlours and nightclubs where enforcement raids were taking place.
The messages also included the license plates, locations and numbers of the enforcement officers.
UncleValet
Another trio of men between the ages of 33 to 44; Lim Wei Xiong, Mah Chee Kean, and Lim Song Huat, are also being accused of sending similar messages to another chat group called “UncleValet” to tip off establishments about the raids, on 1 February 2020.
Rolex Movement
Two others, 27-year-old Yam Jianwen and 42-year-old Raymund Reuben Mervyn, also allegedly sent similar messages to another tipoff chat group called “Rolex Movement”. in April 2019.
Mervyn had allegedly sent a message alluding to a CNB raid operation, saying: “My contact informed me it’s CNB operation next three days island-wide.”
Artillery Regiment
The remaining accused, 32-year-old Chua Yong Dan, also allegedly sent similar messages to a chat group on 6 February 2020, with the chat group being named in Chinese, which translates into “artillery regiment”.
