A family in Johor Bahru is anxiously searching for 22-year-old Mao Jieying, who vanished after leaving home to meet friends for dinner, only to remain uncontactable throughout the night.
According to her stepmother, 37-year-old Ng Kai Shi, Jieying left home around 1pm on Monday and later sent a text saying she was going out for a meal with friends. However, her WhatsApp last showed online at 1.50pm, and she has since gone completely silent on all other social media platforms.
“She only brought along her personal belongings and an umbrella, leaving her passport at home. There was nothing unusual in her behaviour recently, and we didn’t have any disagreements. Her sudden disappearance is deeply worrying,” Ng said.
Quiet Personality, Few Local Friends
Jieying is described as a reserved person. She previously lived with her grandparents in Kuala Lumpur before moving to Johor Bahru about four years ago. She rarely socialises locally, often interacting only with colleagues or online friends. Her family is not well acquainted with her social circle.
She had one previous incident of staying out overnight, but at that time, her location could still be tracked via her phone, and she returned the next day explaining she was simply taking a walk due to feeling down. Currently unemployed, she was supposed to start a new job this Thursday.
Ng emphasised that family relations are harmonious and that Jieying would usually share snippets of her life when in good spirits. Recently, there were no signs of romantic involvement or emotional distress.
Last Seen at Austin Crest
At the time of her disappearance, Jieying was wearing a black top, shorts, and slippers. She was last spotted in the Austin Crest area. The family is urging anyone with information to come forward and for Jieying herself to reach out if she sees this appeal.
