An accident took place earlier today (9 March) involving a motorcycle and a car, resulting in the death of the 24-year-old motorcyclist.
The accident took place at the junction of Loyang Avenue and Cranwell Road at about 12.30am.
The driver of the car, a 57-year-old man, was subsequently arrested by the Singapore Police Force for alleged reckless driving resulting in death.
The Singapore Police Force and Singapore Civil Defence Force said that they were alerted to the fatal accident at about 12.30am.
Investigations are currently ongoing into the accident.
This comes in the wake of another accident last week, when a delivery rider was killed following an accident with two other vehicles at Hougang.
He was on his way to collect a customer’s package when the crash happened, and ultimately succumbed to his injuries and dying after slipping into a coma at the hospital.
Potential penalties
Drivers who drive in a manner that is dangerous to the public is guilty of an offence under section 64(1) of the Road Traffic Act (RTA).
Persons found guilty face a jail term of up to 1 year and/or a $5,000 fine.
If the driver causes hurt, he faces a jail term of up to 2 years and a fine of $10,000.
If the driver caused grievous hurt, he faces a jail term of between 1 to 5 years and disqualified from driving for at least 8 years.
If the driver’s actions caused death, he faces a jail term of up to 2 to 8 years and disqualified from driving for at least 10 years.
