Swift Arrest Made in Little India Gold Chain Snatch Theft Case
A 24-year-old man was apprehended by the police within an hour of allegedly snatching a gold chain worth S$800 from a 65-year-old woman in Little India on Tuesday night (Jun. 11). The incident occurred along Buffalo Road at around 10:37pm, and the police were quickly alerted to the case.
Thanks to swift ground enquiries and coordination with the Police Operations Command Centre, officers from the Central Police Division were able to identify the suspect and make an arrest within a remarkably short period of time. Preliminary investigations suggest that the man may have been involved in another case of theft along Kerbau Road, which is just 130m away from the scene of the crime, according to Google Maps.
The police were able to recover the stolen gold chain as well as a handphone from the suspect. He will be charged in court on Jun. 13 with using criminal force to commit theft.
The police have issued a stern warning that such brazen acts of crime will not be tolerated and that no effort will be spared to apprehend and deal with offenders according to the law. The authorities have also advised members of the public who are confronted with snatch theft to remain calm and to note the perpetrator’s physical appearance and distinctive features before alerting the police as soon as possible.
This swift arrest serves as a testament to the police’s commitment to keeping the community safe and ensuring that criminals are brought to justice. It also highlights the importance of community vigilance and cooperation in preventing and combating crime.
