Authorities have apprehended a 24-year-old individual in connection with a loanshark harassment incident.
In the early hours of April 27, 2025, around 3:30 AM, law enforcement received a report regarding loanshark harassment at a residential property located on North Bridge Road. Upon arrival, officers discovered that both the main gate and the door of the residence had been defaced with red paint.
Following a thorough investigation and utilizing footage from police surveillance cameras, officers from both the Central Police Division and the Woodlands Police Division were able to identify the suspect. He was subsequently arrested on April 28, 2025.
The suspect is scheduled to face charges in court on April 29, 2025, under the Moneylenders Act of 2008. For individuals found guilty of loanshark harassment for the first time, the penalties can be severe, including fines ranging from $5,000 to $50,000, a potential prison sentence of up to five years, and the possibility of receiving up to six strokes of caning.
The police have reiterated their firm stance against loanshark harassment, emphasizing that they will take stringent action against those who engage in such activities. Vandalism, public disturbances, and actions that compromise public safety will be met with strict legal repercussions.
