The police received reports on November 8 and 9, 2024, regarding two separate incidents of loanshark harassment at residential properties located on Waterloo Street and Yishun Avenue 6. In both cases, the main gates of the units were secured with bicycle locks, and debtor’s notes were left behind, indicating the harassment.

Following these reports, police conducted thorough investigations, utilizing surveillance footage from police cameras to identify the suspect. Officers from the Woodlands Police Division successfully arrested the woman on November 20, 2024. Preliminary investigations suggest that she may be linked to multiple similar cases of loanshark harassment across the island.

The woman is scheduled to face charges in court on November 22, 2024, under the Moneylenders Act of 2008. For first-time offenders, the penalties for loanshark harassment can be quite severe, including fines ranging from $5,000 to $50,000, imprisonment for up to five years, and caning of up to six strokes.

The police have reiterated their firm stance against loanshark harassment, emphasizing that individuals who engage in property vandalism, create disturbances, or threaten public safety will face strict legal repercussions.
