25 CYCLIST CAUGHT BY LTA RIDING IN LARGE GROUPS ALONG CLEMENTI & WEST COAST

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has taken a firm stance against errant cyclists, conducting operations to catch those who flout the rules. In their latest effort, more than 25 cyclists were caught riding in larger than permitted groups along Clementi Road and West Coast Highway.

The LTA, in collaboration with the Traffic Police, has been enforcing against cyclists who ride in groups larger than five in a single file or 10 cyclists riding two abreast. The authorities have also emphasized the importance of maintaining a minimum distance of 30m, or two lamp posts, between groups.

The move has been widely welcomed by the public, with many expressing their frustration with cyclists who disregard the rules and pose a risk to themselves and other road users. Some have even suggested that the authorities should take a tougher stance, such as confiscating bicycles on the spot and making it more difficult for offenders to claim them back.

The issue of errant cyclists is not limited to group riding. Many have complained about food delivery cyclists who ride recklessly and disregard traffic rules. The LTA and TP have been urged to extend their enforcement efforts to cover these cyclists as well.

The authorities have been praised for their efforts to promote road safety and maintain order on the roads. Many have expressed their appreciation for the joint operation, which has helped to reduce the number of errant cyclists on the roads.

However, not everyone is convinced that the rules are effective in promoting road safety. Some have questioned the logic behind the group riding restrictions, citing examples from other countries where such rules do not exist.

Despite these concerns, the LTA and TP remain committed to enforcing the rules and promoting a culture of safety and respect among all road users. As the authorities continue to crack down on errant cyclists, it is hoped that the roads will become safer and more pleasant for everyone.
