25 Y.O DAUGHTER DEMANDS PARENTS TO BUY HER GAMES AND PLAYSTATION, THROWS TANTRUMS

Spoiled child taking advantage of parents

I have an acquaintance whose daughter, female (25), has graduated and is working a freelance job. She comes from a pretty well-to-do family that stays in a landed property.

In addition to still partly depending on her parents (which is understandable in SG since it takes time to be able to afford moving out and living independently), she still frequently asks for expensive “gifts” from her parents knowing that they are too soft to reject her.

She fancies herself a gamer, so she already has a fancy setup of PS4, multiple headsets, etc from her parents. But in 2022 she asked for the brand new PS5 (which at that time was very hard to find), for which her parents bought from overseas. The PS4 is now rendered useless and is collecting dust at their home.

After she landed her freelance job, she asked her parents for the latest iMac (2022), claiming that she needs it to do her work even though she already has a Macbook Pro. She subsequently then requested for the latest iPad Pro a month after receiving the iMac, for which she also received without rejection.

Recently she has been demanding and throwing frequent tantrums at her parents for a high end gaming PC (costs a few thousand dollars). Despite the fact that she already has a PS5 and PS4, she wants the PC to game and also gives the excuse that she can “use it for her work” (she typically gives out these fluff justifications while asking her parents for stuff). Once when my acquaintance refused her in public, she threw a tantrum and ran to the bathroom crying.

Her parents could technically afford all this, but they still find it very costly to sustain her lifestyle. My acquaintance has told her time and time again that “this is the last expensive gift, no more after this”, but she still persists to demand for items and proceeds to throw tantrums in light of rejection.

Is this kind of behaviour acceptable for a 25yr old? How would you all suggest my acquaintance advise his daughter?
