25 Y.O LOAN SHARK HARASSOR ARRESTED AFTER SPLASHING THINNER IN TAMPINES

The Police have arrested a 25-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of loanshark harassment.

On 26 May 2024 at about 8.55pm, the Police were alerted to a case of loanshark harassment at a residential unit along Tampines Avenue 9, where the main gate and door were splashed with thinner and a debtor’s note was left behind.

Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from Police cameras, officers from Bedok Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on 28 May 2024. One mobile phone, one red marker and one notebook were seized as case exhibits.

The man will be charged in court on 30 May 2024 under the Moneylenders Act 2008. For first time offenders, the offence of loanshark harassment carries a fine between $5,000 and $50,000, with imprisonment of up to five years, and caning of up to six strokes. 

The Police have zero tolerance for loanshark harassment activities. Those who deliberately vandalise properties, cause annoyance or disrupt public safety, peace and security, will be dealt with severely in accordance with the law.
