The Police conducted a two week operation against various crimes which was led by Secret Societies Branch of Criminal Investigation Department and supported by the seven Police Land Divisions and the Singapore Food Agency (SFA).
100 Public Entertainment and nightlife establishments checked
A total of 26 men, aged between 16 and 41, were arrested for being suspected members of unlawful societies. 4 other men were also arrested for various offences.
A 30-year-old man was arrested after he caused a public disturbance when Police officers arrested his brother for a suspected member of an unlawful society at Circular Road.
A 29-year-old tried to intefere in the arrest of the 30-year-old and he was arrested as well following obstructing a public servant by pulling Police officers.
A 28-year-old woman was also arrested for shouting vulgarities at the public servants.
Man arrested for offensive weapon – Ice Tongs
A 24-year-old man was allegedly found in possession of a pair of ice tongs along Circular Road, which he had purportedly attempted to discard when he was approached by police officers. He was then arrested for carrying an offensive weapon in public.
Penalties:
Anyone found guilty of being a member of secret society can be jailed up to 3 years and/or fine $5,000
Offensive weapon – 3 years jail and at least 6 strokes of cane
Obstructing public servant – up to 6 months jail and/or $2500 fine
