Details of the Incident

On May 31, 2025, authorities received a report from a victim who operated a jewellery shop. The victim stated that a man had contacted him to purchase a gold necklace but failed to make the payment upon delivery. The suspect had sent the victim a screenshot of a purported successful payment, which led the shop owner to release the gold necklace via courier services. The victim only realised he had been cheated when he checked his company’s bank account and found no record of the payment.

Further investigations revealed that the suspect is also believed to be involved in multiple e-commerce scams. Victims had made payments totalling over $11,600 for items listed on the online marketplace Carousell, but they never received the purchased items.

Arrest and Legal Proceedings

Following thorough investigations, officers from the Bedok Police Division identified the suspect and arrested him on June 3, 2025. He is scheduled to be charged in court on June 5, 2025, under Section 420 of the Penal Code 1871 for cheating. This offense carries a potential imprisonment term of up to 10 years and a fine.
