3 MEMBERS OF SECRET SOCIETY JAILED AFTER GANG CHANT IN TIONG BAHRU

A funeral procession that happened in 2021 which involved more than 20 people shouting their gang slogans while walking and following a hearse has led to the arrest of 3 men.

The men were believed to be from the secret society 18 Sio Yi Ho and chanted gang slogans to show off their affiliation to the group. They were arrested for chanting their gang slogans in public and also face charges of being a member of an unlawful society.

Jail

Investigations revealed that the incident took place in the vicinity of Tiong Bahru and 3 men has been sentenced to jail.

  • 62-year-old Young Chin Peng
  • 46-year-old Arian Chua Yon Han
  • 53-year-old Chiau Chee Meng

Young jailed 4 months for not wearing a mask and being a member of the secret society since 1972 (50 Years)

Chiau was sentenced to 3 months in jail, Chua was sentenced to 4 months and two weeks in jail

All three men were also fined $2,500

Anyone found guilty of being a member of an unlawful society under section 14(3) of the Societies Act shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $5,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding three years, or both.

The Police have zero tolerance towards secret society activities and will not hesitate to take strong actions, including invoking the Criminal Law (Temporary Provisions) Act that provides for detention without trial, against anyone involved in secret society and criminal activities that threatens the public safety, peace and good order. Members of the public are advised to steer clear of secret society activities and to report those engaging in such unlawful activities to the Police immediately.
