The Singapore Tourism Board announced the SingapoRediscovers Vouchers (“SRV”) Scheme in December 2020 to help local tourism enterprises amid the COVID-19 epidemic.
However, there were those that tried to earn from it illegally.
On September 27, 2021, the Police arrested three people associated with an authorized merchant, Continental Travel Singapore Pte Ltd, for their role in a series of alleged fraudulent SRV redemptions.
They reportedly participated in cashback agreements by providing cash to customers in exchange for redeeming their SRV by purchasing the merchant’s local excursions. Such agreements are illegal under the SRV Scheme, and authorities are investigating the situation.
