According to the Singapore Tourism Board, 34 people have been caught for not wearing a facemask or gathered in large groups of more than 8.
Each violator was issued a fine of S$300. The number of people that were caught was from 15 Jan 2021 to date.
Establishments in Chinatown were also fined between S$1,000 to S$2,000 for failing to ensure that their customers kept a safe distance between them, while some were fined for allowing groups of more than 8 to gather.
Although Singapore is in Phase 3 and Chinese New Year is around the corner, COVID-19 is still an active threat in the world.
STB has stepped up checks on tourism establishments and precincts since the start of Phase 2 and will continue to deploy additional enforcement officers and Safe Distancing Ambassadors where required. Enforcement action will be taken for non-compliance, which may include fines, closure of business, and prosecution.
In a separate statement, STB said that they will work with establishments in Chinatown to ensure that they adhere to all regulations in these difficult times.
