
According to the Singapore Police, a 34-year-old man will be charged in court tomorrow (02 Jul) for his suspected involvement in knowingly committing acts prejudicial to the maintenance of racial harmony.
The police were alerted on the 18 Apr 2020, after offensive tweets were posted by @sharonliew86 targeting at the Indian immigrant workers.
The police managed to identify the identity of the man, “further investigations revealed that the man is also allegedly involved in two other cases involving other purportedly offensive tweets.”
According to the law, if convicted the man could face a jail term up to 3 years or a fine or both.
“The Police will not condone acts that threaten racial and religious harmony in Singapore.
Any person who makes remarks that can cause ill-will and hostility between the different races and religions will be dealt with swiftly and firmly.”
