39-year-old Dominic Han Shunguang, pleaded guilty to 3 counts of cheating and was sentenced to 10 weeks imprisonment on 7 October.
He had used stolen credit card details to buy cookbooks, jigsaw puzzles and an air purifier between 2021 and 2022.
What happened?
Han returned to Singapore in December 2020 and was serving his quarantine at a hotel, when he started researching on how to scam others and had the idea of using stolen credit card details to carrying out fraudulent transactions.
He started sourcing for stolen credit card information online in October 2021 and obtained a few stolen credit card details from a person called “Yi San” via Telegram.
He then used the details to buy an air purifier, cookbooks, powerbanks, jigsaw puzzles and etcetera, between October 2021 to March 2022.
The total value of the good that he purchased was $4,505.09
Popular Bookstore then lodged a police report in March after a bank informed them that some orders placed with them were from unauthorised credit card transactions.
Han was subsequently arrested on 23 March, and he initially denied the allegations before finally confessing and making full restitution to the companies.
