Investigations revealed that the man was allegedly engaged by an unknown person via a social messaging platform to deliver the duty-unpaid cigarettes. He would use his employer’s company vehicle to make the deliveries during his free time.
The total duty and Goods and Services tax evaded amounted to about $12,200 and $970 respectively. The man was charged in court on 18 Jan 2023.
