The Singapore Police Force has arrested four male Chinese nationals, aged between 36 and 41, for possessing housebreaking implements, in an operation targeting suspected foreign syndicates involved in residential break-ins. Coordinated Operation Leads to Arrests

On 8 August 2025, officers carried out a joint operation in the areas surrounding the Rail Corridor and Bukit Timah Road, locations known to be exploited by housebreakers hiding within forested areas. The operation involved personnel from the Clementi Police Division, Police Operations Command Centre, Police Intelligence Department, Gurkha Contingent, Special Operations Command, and the Home Team Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Command.

Two suspects were apprehended within the forested areas of the Rail Corridor, while a third man was arrested later that night at a mall near Clementi. The fourth suspect was taken into custody the following morning at a hotel in Geylang. During the arrests, officers seized various housebreaking tools including screwdrivers, spanners, and clothing, along with over S$400 in cash.

Legal Proceedings and Community Measures

The four men will face court on 10 August 2025 for possession of housebreaking implements with common intention under Section 453 of the Penal Code 1871, read with Section 34. Convictions may carry a prison term of up to two years, along with a fine. Police investigations are ongoing to determine potential links to other residential break-ins.

Since June 2024, the Police have ramped up measures to deter housebreaking, including the installation of additional CCTV cameras at strategic locations, frequent patrols, and engagement with residents of private estates. Community vigilance remains a key pillar in neighbourhood safety, and residents are encouraged to adopt preventive measures such as installing security alarms and cameras. Suspicious activity should be reported immediately via the Police hotline ‘999’.
