MAN CHARGED WITH VOLUNTARILY CAUSING GRIEVOUS HURT AFTER 67-YEAR-OLD MAN DIES FROM FIGHT INJURIES
A 40-year-old man, Zubir Mohamed, has been charged with voluntarily causing grievous hurt after a 67-year-old man, Sivarajoo Pitchay Pillai, died from injuries sustained during a fight on August 3. According to court documents, Zubir allegedly pushed Sivarajoo to the ground and punched him in the face, causing a skull fracture, in a back alley of Geylang Road.
Sivarajoo was taken to the hospital conscious but later succumbed to his injuries on August 19. The police arrested Zubir in relation to the case and he is currently not represented by a lawyer.
In addition to the charge of voluntarily causing grievous hurt, Zubir faces four other charges for theft and one for criminal breach of trust. The theft charges include stealing cash cards, a bicycle, a mobile phone, and misappropriating a watch and a ring that he was entrusted to keep.
Zubir’s case will be heard again on August 29. If found guilty of voluntarily causing grievous hurt, he can be jailed for up to 10 years and fined or caned. For the theft charges, he can be jailed for up to three years or fined, or both. For criminal breach of trust, he can be jailed for up to seven years or fined, or both.
