The motorists were arrested during police enforcement operations conducted between March and June 2026 after failing breathalyser tests.

According to the Singapore Police Force (SPF), the cases highlight the continued risks posed by drink driving despite repeated warnings and enforcement efforts.

Two repeat drink drivers face mandatory jail

Among those charged are two men, aged 44 and 48, who are repeat drink-driving offenders.

The pair were stopped during police checks on Apr. 16 and Jun. 18 respectively, where officers allegedly found them driving while under the influence of alcohol.

If convicted, repeat offenders face a mandatory jail sentence in addition to heavier fines under Singapore law.

Three motorists allegedly fell asleep behind the wheel

Separately, three other male motorists aged between 29 and 59 will face additional charges after they were allegedly found asleep inside their stationary vehicles.

The incidents occurred along Hougang Street 13, Clementi Avenue 5 and Loyang Avenue on Apr. 30, May 9 and Jun. 15 respectively.

Police investigations found that all three had allegedly driven after consuming alcohol before stopping their vehicles and falling asleep behind the wheel.

Their stationary vehicles reportedly obstructed traffic and posed potential danger and inconvenience to other road users.

Besides drink-driving offences, the trio will also be charged with leaving a vehicle in a position that caused undue inconvenience.

Penalties for drink driving

Under Singapore law, motorists convicted of driving while under the influence of alcohol can face fines ranging from S$2,000 to S$10,000, imprisonment of up to 12 months, or both.

Repeat offenders face stiffer penalties, including fines of between S$5,000 and S$20,000, mandatory imprisonment of up to two years, and possible disqualification from holding or obtaining a driving licence.

Those convicted of leaving a vehicle in a position causing undue inconvenience may also face additional fines and jail terms.

Police urge motorists not to drink and drive

The SPF reminded motorists that drink driving remains an extremely dangerous and irresponsible act that puts lives at risk.

Drivers who intend to consume alcohol are encouraged to make alternative transport arrangements, such as taking a taxi or private-hire vehicle, using public transport, arranging for a designated driver or engaging valet services.

Police added that they will continue taking firm enforcement action against motorists who choose to get behind the wheel after drinking.
