42-year-old Angelo Ng Chek Kiang, was sentenced to 5 years, 5 weeks and 5 days imprisonment on 29 July, as well as 12 strokes of the cane.
He had pleaded guilty to robbing a massage parlour, as well as supplying health products illegally and consumption of a controlled drug on 23 March 2021.
His robbery accomplice, Goh Soon Kim, was previously sentenced in April to 4 years and 6 months imprisonment as well as 12 strokes of the cane.
What happened
Goh had suggested committing the robbery to Ng on 24 September last year, thinking that if the massage parlour offered adult services, the staff wouldn’t make a police report if they were robed.
Goh then called the parlour that was located at S Inn Hostel, thinking that they provided happy-ending massages.
The masseuse, Tang Ping, gave him the address of the massage parlour and Ng then went down with Goh with knives at about 2am in the morning.
Goh reached the parlour and told Tang that he would hurt her if she didn’t give them money, three other masseuses then went to the front counter upon hearing the commotion to see what was happening.
He then threatened to hurt them if they didn’t give him money, but they told him that they didn’t have any.
Goh then used his knife to open the lockers at the counter but failed, and Ng then pushed a table which caused a drawer to fall and hit Quan Xiu Zhen, another masseuse, resulting in a small bruise on her right thigh.
Quan then got angry and tried to walk to the main door, but Ng then pulled her back into the parlour and injured his own left hand in the process.
Angry at being injured, he then slapped Quan on the face.
Meanwhile, Goh was continuing his demand for money and the women then opened the lockers and gave them $950 in cash because they were afraid of being injured by them.
Ng and Goh then left and Tang then called the police, and a report was then lodged at about 3.10am.
Goh was then arrested later that day at about 10.15am, while Ng was caught 2 days later. Ng then admitted to receiving more than n$100 from Goh, which he had since spent.
