During last year April 2020, a man, 44 years old, met a lady from the Facebook dating app. The both of them get along very well as they have common topics to talk about. They also talked about their future together.
Not long later, the lady recommended him to invest in foreign exchange investment through a website that she gave him. The victim then invested more than $10k but lost all the invested money.
The lady told him, that the loss was due to his incapability in investment and recommended him a “professional” financial advisor showing the victim all the past experience of her, stating that the advisor could earn 20% of what invested in just a short time. The victim then decided to invest more money (more than S$20k).
At some point in August last year, the advisor recommended that both should go for a joint purchase as the foreign exchange during that period will go up.
After looking at the account and realized that money was growing inside due to the rise in foreign exchange, the victim then decided to borrow more money from friends and family members.
When he saw his profit reaching more than $2M he decided that he want to stop and take out his money. Just when he was about to cash out the money, he was informed that the advisor was arrested for allegedly manipulating the stocks.
Having all his money invested lost, he decided to contact the lady and realized he was being blocked by her. He felt sad and cheated by her.
