44 Y.O WOMAN ARRESTED AFTER LOCKING YISHUN UNIT WITH BICYCLE LOCK

The Police have arrested a 44-year-old woman for her suspected involvement in a case of loanshark harassment.

On 14 January 2024 at about 11.15pm, the Police were alerted to a case of loanshark harassment at a residential unit along Yishun Avenue 6, where the main gate of a residential unit was locked with a bicycle lock and a debtor’s note was left behind. 

Through follow-up investigations and with the aid of images from Police cameras, officers from Woodlands Police Division established the identity of the woman and arrested her on 29 January 2024. Two debtor’s notes, one bicycle lock and a whiteboard marker were seized as case exhibits.

The woman will be charged in court on 31 January 2024 under the Moneylenders Act 2008. For first-time offenders, the offence of loanshark harassment carries a fine between $5,000 and $50,000, with imprisonment of up to five years, and caning of up to six strokes. 

The Police have zero tolerance against loanshark harassment activities. Those who deliberately vandalise properties, cause annoyance or disrupt public safety, peace and security, will be dealt with severely in accordance with the law.
