According to a media release, The Food Bank has worked with Philips Foundation to give out 45,000 “Banks Cards” to people from low-income families. These cards allow them to get free hot meals from food vending machines placed under void decks.
Each of these cards contains a 50 monthly credit which can be used to get food items. These credits cannot be carried forward if unused. The Philips foundation not only funded the cards but also assisted in the installation of the vending machines.
The Food Bank and Philips foundation aim to not only help the lower-income families but also hope to increase outreach on nutrition education. All this is part of the educational initiative programme that was created by the Food Bank and Philips Foundation called “Powering better living through access to nutrition”.
