In a shocking case that highlights the pressing issue of workplace harassment, Mohamed Rozi Mohamed Nor recently pleaded guilty to using criminal force to outrage the modesty of a female colleague.
The incident unfolded on April 21, 2023, when Rozi approached the victim under the pretext of checking on her new fan.
What followed was a series of distressing actions that left the victim traumatized.
The Disturbing Incident
According to TODAY, the victim was alone at her work desk when Rozi approached her to inquire about the new fan.
However, his actions quickly escalated, crossing the line into harassment. Rozi hugged her from behind, sniffed her hair, and made inappropriate comments.
These actions, in and of themselves, were invasive and uncomfortable.
Multiple Rejections
The victim bravely rejected Rozi’s advances and informed him that his behavior was inappropriate.
However, Rozi persisted in his inappropriate actions, asking where it would be appropriate to kiss her and even pulling down her collar.
Despite her continuous rejections, he continued to advance.
The Descent into Inappropriateness
Rozi’s actions escalated further as he lifted the victim onto her desk, commenting on her weight, and made her extremely uncomfortable.
The victim, feeling unsafe and violated, left the room to escape the situation.
Unfortunately, Rozi returned to repeat his disturbing actions.
The Apology and Police Report
Only after the victim reported the incident to the police did Rozi realize the gravity of his actions.
In the days that followed, he sent apologetic messages to the victim, seeking her assistance.
Legal Consequences
Deputy Public Prosecutor Ariel Tan sought a seven-month jail term for Rozi, emphasizing that his actions constituted a degree of exploitation involving force and a prolonged intrusion into the victim’s privacy.
The incident was a stark violation of the victim’s safety and trust in her workplace.
Deterrent Sentence
The severity of the harassment and its occurrence during work hours have led to calls for a deterrent sentence. It is imperative that employees feel safe and protected in their workplace.
Rozi could face up to three years in jail, fines, caning, or a combination of these punishments for each charge of using criminal force.
